ATTENDANCE POLICY

In person and/or TMA virtual attendance is vital for your child’s academic success! Students are required by law to be present for the majority of the school day to count as an attendance day. Early dismissals count as unexcused absences unless a doctor’s note or a court document is turned into the office. We cannot honor an early dismissal from 3:30-4:00.

Excuses for Absences

There are six legal reasons for excusing a child from school according to the Hamilton County School Board Policy:

The child’s personal illness
Death in the family (not to exceed 3 days)
Family illness that requires a child to assist in care (physician’s statement is required).
Recognized religious holidays regularly attended by persons of that faith
Personal: dental, doctor, court etc. with proof of appointment
School sponsored activities

No vacations can be excused absences. Parents are contacted daily by phone for absences. Please keep numbers updated. A referral to the social worker is made after 5 unexcused live/virtual absences.

If a student is absent for any reason, he/she must bring a note signed by the parent (only 3 allowed) or doctor showing his name, reason for absence, the date of the absence and a home phone number. This is to be given to the main office secretary and the child will show the copy to each classroom teacher.

Attendance appeals

It is the principal’s responsibility to establish a committee that will determine the effect that absences have on a student’s grade after 5 absences in any given nine week period. The committee shall consist of the grade level teachers, the guidance counselor, an administrator and a parent or guardian, if possible.

ARRIVAL POLICY

Students may not arrive on campus before 8:30 A.M. They will report to the cafeteria for breakfast or to their homeroom class. They may not wait outside on school property.

DISMISSAL POLICY

Dismissals may not be requested by the phone. Parents must come into the building to sign students out for excused appointments. No dismissals will be allowed after 3:30 P.M.. Dismissals may be granted for doctor appointments, court appearances, funerals, or school service activities only.

TARDY POLICY

Students should be in their classroom by 8:55 AM. Students are marked TARDY beginning at 9:05 AM Students arriving after 9:05 will need to report to the main office. Tardiness to classes during the day is a behavior and will be documented as a RAM file with appropriate consequences. Students delayed by a teacher need a pass to avoid consequences.

WITHDRAWAL POLICY

If you move during the school year, please call or send a note to the guidance office before your last day. Students should turn in all books and get grades from each teacher after being withdrawn by the guardian. All debts and lunch charges must be cleared before records can be released to another school.
